6.1 Adding Notes to a Lesson
As you work through your lessons on VirtualX, you may want to write down important points, definitions, or reminders for yourself. VirtualX makes this easy with a built-in notes tool.
Adding notes helps you:
- 🧠 Remember key ideas
- 📖 Prepare for quizzes and exams
- 📝 Collect useful tips in one place
- 🗂️ Study smarter—not harder!
💡 It’s like having your own mini notebook built into every lesson.
🛠️ How to Add a Note Inside a Lesson
- Open a unit/lesson in your course
- Scroll through the content
- Look for the 📝 Notes icon or a box that says “Add a Note”
- Click or tap inside the note box
- Type your note (e.g. “Photosynthesis needs sunlight + chlorophyll”)
- Click Save or Add Note
✅ Your note is now saved and linked to that lesson!
📚 Where to Find Your Saved Notes
You can view all your notes later in one place:
- Go to your Dashboard
- Click “My Notes” or “Saved Notes”
- You’ll see a list of all notes linked to each lesson
- Click any note to go back to that part of the course
🧑🏽🏫 Example in Action:
Jade is studying Grade 8 History – Unit 2: The Great Trek. She types:
“Remember: The Voortrekkers moved inland between 1835 and 1845.”
Later, when revising for her quiz, she opens My Notes and reviews all the facts she saved.
💡 Tips for Writing Useful Notes
| Tip | Why It Helps |
| Keep it short and clear | Easier to revise later |
| Use bullet points or keywords | Organises your thoughts |
| Note down quiz hints | Helps you remember important details |
| Don’t copy everything | Focus on what YOU need to remember |
| Review your notes weekly | Good for revision before tests |
✅ Summary
Adding notes to lessons on VirtualX is a smart way to take control of your learning. You won’t need a separate notebook—your notes stay safe inside the platform and are always ready when you need them.
6.2 Asking Questions in a Unit
Sometimes while reading a lesson or watching a video on VirtualX, you might feel confused or stuck. That’s okay! Instead of keeping quiet or waiting until class, you can ask a question directly inside the unit.
This feature helps you:
- 🗣️ Get help from your teacher
- 💬 Start a discussion with classmates (if allowed)
- 🧠 Understand topics better
- 🤝 Learn in a collaborative way
💡 Remember: asking questions is a smart part of learning—not a weakness.
🛠️ How to Ask a Question Inside a Lesson
- Open a unit/lesson in your course
- Scroll to the bottom of the page
- Look for a box or section titled “Ask a Question”, “Leave a Comment”, or “Discussion”
- Click or tap in the text box
- Type your question clearly (e.g. “Can you explain what GDP means again?”)
- Click Post, Ask, or Submit
✅ Your teacher will get a notification and can reply directly under your question.
🔔 Where to See the Response
- You’ll get a notification (🔔 bell icon) when your teacher replies
- Or check the same lesson page later to see the answer below your comment
👩🏽🏫 Example in Action:
Zanele is confused about Unit 5 in Natural Sciences: Energy Forms. She types:
“I don’t understand the difference between potential and kinetic energy. Can you explain it again?”
Her teacher replies the next day with an example:
“Sure! A parked car has potential energy. A moving car has kinetic energy.”
💡 Tips for Asking Good Questions
| Tip | Why It Helps |
| Be specific | “What is an example of…” is better than “I don’t get it” |
| Ask as soon as you’re unsure | Don’t wait till it’s too late |
| Be respectful | Use clear and polite language |
| Check if your question was already answered | Saves time for you and your teacher |
| Use this space for learning-related topics only | Keep it focused |
❗ When Not to Use the Comment Box
| Not for… | Use instead |
| Asking about marks | Message your teacher privately |
| Personal issues | Speak to your teacher in person or via inbox |
| Jokes or off-topic chats | Keep the lesson comments professional |
✅ Summary
Asking questions in a unit shows you care about your learning. It helps your teacher support you faster—and sometimes even helps other classmates who had the same question.
6.3 Leaving a Course Rating or Review
After finishing a course—or even while you’re still busy—you can leave a rating or review to share your experience. This helps:
- 👩🏽🏫 Your teacher know what worked well (or didn’t)
- 🎯 Improve the course for future learners
- 📢 Give you a voice in your learning journey
💡 Your feedback makes a difference—it helps teachers improve and keeps the course learner-friendly.
⭐ What Is a Course Rating?
A rating is when you give a course a score out of 5 stars:
- ⭐ 1 star = Very poor
- ⭐⭐ 2 stars = Needs improvement
- ⭐⭐⭐ 3 stars = Average
- ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars = Good
- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars = Excellent
You’ll also have the chance to write a short review or comment.
🛠️ How to Leave a Rating or Review
- Log in to your VirtualX account
- Go to Dashboard > My Courses
- Click on the course you’ve finished (or nearly completed)
- Scroll to the bottom of the course page
- Look for the “Leave a Review” or “Course Rating” section
- Click the stars to choose your rating
- Type your short review (e.g. “I enjoyed the video lessons and the quizzes helped me prepare for exams.”)
- Click Submit
✅ Your feedback is saved and may be visible to the teacher or other learners.
🧑🏽🏫 Example in Action:
Siphesihle just completed Grade 10 Life Orientation.
She scrolls down and writes:
⭐⭐⭐⭐
“This course helped me understand mental health and career planning. I liked the examples. Some videos took long to load, but overall it was great!”
Her teacher sees the review and takes note to improve the video quality.
📌 What Makes a Good Review?
| Tip | Why It Helps |
| Be honest but respectful | Helps the teacher without sounding rude |
| Say what you liked | Encourages more of the same |
| Suggest one thing to improve | Makes your feedback helpful |
| Keep it short and clear | Easy to read and respond to |
❗ Remember
- Reviews are part of your learning feedback—not for jokes or complaints
- Don’t include personal info (like your phone number) in public reviews
- If you had a serious issue with the course, it’s better to message your teacher directly
✅ Summary
Leaving a course review is your chance to share what you thought. A short rating and comment helps your teacher and classmates—and shows that you’re an active, responsible learner.
6.4 Viewing Your Notes and Public Comments
When you add a note to a lesson or ask a question in the comments, VirtualX saves it so you can go back to it anytime. This is useful for:
- 🧠 Revision before a quiz or test
- 📖 Checking answers after feedback
- 🔁 Reviewing what you didn’t understand before
💡 Your notes and comments are like your own digital study guide.
📘 How to View Your Saved Notes

- Click on “My Notes” or “Saved Notes” (usually in the sidebar or top menu)
- You’ll see a list of all the notes you wrote, sorted by:
- 📘 Course name
- 🗂️ Lesson title
- 📅 Date added
- Click on any note to:
- Re-read it
- Go back to the lesson it came from
- Edit or delete the note (if allowed)
✅ This makes it easy to revise important points without going through the whole course again.
💬 How to View Your Public Comments or Questions
- Open the course where you left the comment
- Go to the lesson/unit where you posted it
- Scroll to the bottom of the page
- Your comment or question will appear under the “Discussion” or “Comments” section
- You can read replies, respond to feedback, or continue the conversation
📌 Other learners may also see your comment if the teacher has allowed public discussions.
🧑🏽🏫 Example in Action:
Lebo is studying for a Grade 9 EMS quiz. He goes to “My Notes”, finds his notes from Unit 3 (Banking and Saving), and reviews his list of definitions. He also checks the comment where his teacher explained “compound interest” in response to his earlier question.
🧠 Why Reviewing Notes & Comments Is Helpful
| Action | Benefit |
| Reading your saved notes | Saves time when revising |
| Checking old comments | Reminds you of past confusion or teacher advice |
| Following up on feedback | Helps improve your future assignments |
| Keeping track of questions asked | Shows how much you’ve grown as a learner |
✅ Summary
Your notes and public comments are always there to help you revise, reflect, and keep learning. With just a few clicks, you can return to your thoughts, your teacher’s answers, and all the helpful information you’ve gathered during the course.
